Replacements were requested for W.Nr. 620583, 621972, 620332 and 621808 while the section of the message dealing with personnel casualties was indistinct. There was uncertainty too at Bletchley Park over where the attack had taken place. It was known that II./NJG 2’s transfer from Vechta to Mainz/Finthen had been intended earlier that month and that six aircraft of the 5. Staffel had arrived in Langendiebach on the 20th. The Stabskompanie, 4. and 6. Staffeln had left left Vechta on 21 January but 19 of the Gruppe’s aircraft were still at Vechta on the 24th. The text sent to Allied commands opted for “C% [fair indications] Mainz-Finthen”. There are no 1400 series numbers in Bundesarchiv RL 7-11/15: Tarnzahlen für Flugplätze (Febr. 1945) or in the October 1944 edition of the list (RL 7-11/16). In October, Mainz-Finthen was either 4632, 7370 or 1921; Vechta was 4979, 7023 or 9368. In February, Mainz-Finthen was either 8317, 6213 or 4217; Vechta was 7928, 6602 or 3828.
